French Pass Community Charitable Trust (FPC) is a community supported project, for the eradication of introduced tree climbing predators. You can find our website at fpcwildlife.org.nz
The area of focus comprises of the two peninsulas from Elaine Bay to French Pass and Bulwer/Port Ligar/Te Kopi. With a total of approximately 13,000 hectares and 190 Kilometres of coastline. This area is adjacent to predator free sanctuaries Maud Island and Chetwode Islands and in combination will provide a large geographical refuge.
It is FPC’s intention/kaupapa to eradicate, possums, stoats, weasels, ferrets, rats and feral cats from within this area. These introduced animals/predators have caused large scale reduction and extinction of native species/taonga throughout New Zealand.
A trapping only approach will be used as the area consists of 268 individual landowners with many household water catchments.
